The goal if this course is to teach you what it is like to be a prop artist, Various fundamentals that you should know and we will give you a detailed overview on how to create a high quality 3D asset while teaching you all the techniques you should know if you want to become a prop artist.

This course will start with a detailed powerpoint presentation in which we will do an introduction to who I am, discuss the main responsibilities of a prop artist, what the day of a prop artist looks like, some key focus points in becoming a prop artist, how to craft a good portfolio and various workflow overviews.

After this we will go over in detail and in real-time on how to create a high quality, game ready 3d asset of a Japanese vending machine. During this time we will cover various techniques from gathering references, creating blockouts, doing high to low poly modeling, doing weighted normals modeling, baking and creating unique high quality textures and many more techniques.

The way that you should think about it is that at the end of this course you will be able to create exactly what you see in this trailer. And you can apply these techniques to any type of 3D asset.

SKILL LEVEL
This game art tutorial is considered an beginner to intermediate course and we require students to have some familiarity with a 3d Modeling tools, and Substance Painter – Everything in this tutorial will be explained in detail but we will not be going over the very basics of the software mentioned below as this is not an introduction to individual software's.

TOOLS USED

  • 3DS Max (we used universal techniques so other modeling programs are also fine)
  • Substance Painter
  • Marmoset Toolbag 5 (optional)
  • Rizom UV (optional)
  • Unreal Engine (optional)

Please note that most techniques used are universal, so they can be replicated in almost any 3D software like Maya & 3DS Max.
